The brief
Two symmetrical borders designed around a romantic, all-white planting palette. The aim was to create something elegant and timeless, combining strong structure with soft, generous flowering through the seasons.
The planting
Evergreen Pittosporum ‘Variegatum’ provides the structural framework, with Hibiscus ‘White Chiffon’ used as focal points within the symmetry of the beds.
Large groups of Hydrangea ‘Annabelle’ create the main summer display, while Rosa ‘Iceberg’ adds a more personal touch, chosen to reflect the white roses used in the client’s wedding bouquet.
Around these, Astrantia ‘Shaggy’, Echinacea ‘Alba’, Phlox ‘David’ and Anemone ‘Whirlwind’ provide a succession of white flowers, softened by Stipatenuissima and low-growing Geraniumphaeum ‘Album’.
Design approach
The symmetry of the borders creates a formal backbone, while the planting itself is kept softer and more naturalistic. Repeating white flowers at different heights creates continuity through the beds, with contrasting foliage, grasses and evergreen structure preventing the single-colour palette from feeling flat.
